Florida State will host the Princeton softball team in next weekend's NCAA regional, the Tigers learned Sunday night during the NCAA selection show on ESPN2, capping the annual awards banquet.
The NCAA bid followed Princeton winning its 19th Ivy League title, affording the Tigers their 10th NCAA tournament appearance. Princeton's first game of the double-elimination tournament will be Friday against host FSU at 7 p.m. ET, televised on ESPNU. Georgia and Jacksonville State join Princeton at the regional, which will run through Sunday.
The selection show was the final part of the team's annual banquet, which included announcing the program's award winners.Â
Senior pitcher Claire Klausner earned the Cindy Cohen Award, given to a senior who has been an inspiration to her teammates through sportsmanship, dedication and consistent effort. Klausner started the front end of every Ivy League doubleheader and threw a 1-0 shutout in the first game of the Ivy League Championship Series against Harvard last weekend.
Senior outfielder Marissa Reynolds won the Patton-Poole Award, the team's Most Valuable Player honor. Reynolds ranks in the top 10 in the nation in doubles per game (fourth, 0.41), on-base percentage (fifth, .574), slugging percentage (fifth, .886), and batting average (seventh, .457). She is also just one walk away from tying the program record for career walks, now with 87.Â
Freshman shortstop Allison Harvey was named the Kathy Kobler Garrett '91 Memorial Award honoree, a recognition given to the player whose generosity, positive attitude, genuine consideration for others, and quiet energy makes her essential to the success of the team. Harvey has driven in a team-best 31 hits this season while being the only player to start all 43 of the team's games.Â
