Harding Named Second Team All-Ivy, Three Other Tigers Honored
May 18, 2017 | Baseball
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers had four players honored on the All-Ivy teams, the Ivy League announced today.
David Harding was selected to the second team All-Ivy while Nick Hernandez, Asher Lee-Tyson, Jesper Horsted were picked as honorable mention All-Ivy.
Harding led the team with a .318 batting average, snagging 35 hits, 14 runs scored and 19 RBI. He slugged .400 and posted an on-base percentage of .364. The freshman opened the season with a six-game hitting streak including two knocks at Duke (Mar. 4). The utility player began Ivy League play with hits in four straight contests. He picked up eight RBI in a double dip at Harvard (Apr. 9), leading to Ivy Rookie of the Week accolades (Apr. 11). Other top conference performances include multi-hit outings vs. Penn (Apr. 15-16) and a season-best four hits vs. Columbia (Apr. 21).
Hernandez led the Tigers in at-bats (150), hits (46), extra-base hits (12), RBI (24), total bases (68) and slugging percentage (.453). His batting average did not drop under .300 after April 5th. The outfielder had a career-high four hits along with three RBI at UNC-Greensboro (Mar. 11) before a five-game hitting streak (Mar. 18-24) that raised his batting average 40 points. Hernandez had a tremendous streak of four consecutive games (Mar. 25-Apr. 2) with at least two hits including a remarkable two-home run, five-RBI performance vs. Brown (Apr. 2). He then went off for three knocks including a home run at Harvard (Apr. 9). After tying his career high with four hits vs. Rider (Apr. 19), Hernandez had three more vs Columbia (Apr. 21). It's Hernandez's second Ivy honor as he was All-Ivy second team last season.
Lee-Tyson had a team-high 22 runs scored and was tied for second in hits (33), walks (17) and RBI (19). The junior shortstop got off to a slow start with an 0-for-15 stretch before collecting consecutive multi-hit games at UNC-Greensboro (Mar. 11-12). Lee-Tyson hit .312 with a team-best 18 runs scored after Mar. 21. He collected an 11-game hitting streak to start Ivy League play (Apr. 2-15), hitting .302 with 18 total bases and eight runs scored during that stretch. In a doubleheader vs. Brown (Apr. 2), the junior combined for four hits including first career home run along with three runs, and three RBI vs. Brown (Apr. 2). He had hits in four consecutive matchups (Apr. 16-21) right after his 11-game streak came to an end. Lee-Tyson finished his season by smacking his second career home run vs. Columbia (Apr. 21) and helping the Tigers knock off No. 22 St. John's (Apr. 26) with two hits, one of which was a four-bagger, and two RBI.
Horsted finished third on the team in hitting (.281). He began 2017 with a three-game hitting streak at Duke (Mar. 3-5) and also scored a run in three consecutive contests at Old Dominion and Navy (Mar. 21-24). Horsted started conference action with hits in four straight games (Apr. 2-8) before recording multi-hit games at Harvard and at Penn (Apr. 9-15). He ripped a double in back-to-back-to-back games vs. Cornell (Apr. 28-29). During one of those games vs. Cornell, Horsted just missed the cycle, adding four RBI and two runs scored. He completed his season by hitting .352 in the month of April with seven extra-base hits. The multi-sport athlete, who was honorable mention All-Ivy League in football during the fall, earned first team All-Ivy as a freshman in baseball.
