One Round Complete for Walton at NCAA Finals

Princeton freshman Maya Walton improved throughout her tournament at the NCAA Regionals in Georgia two weekends ago, and she improved during her first round Friday at the NCAA Championship outside Chicago.
Walton made par on just one of her first eight holes Friday at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill., before missing par on just two of her final 10 to finish at +16. Walton will play at least two more rounds Saturday and Sunday, but to advance to a final round Monday, she'll have to be one of the top nine golfers not on one of the top 15 teams. Through the first round, the standard to be in those top nine individuals was +6. Purdue's August Kim and Michigan's Elodie Van Dievoet are tied atop the leaderboard at even par after the first round.
Walton is due to tee off for her second round at 3:25 p.m. ET/2:25 local time Saturday, changed from the original 1:55 p.m. ET start time due to weather. Live scoring is available via Golfstat here.
