Barnes on Victory
MILWAUKEE, WISC. – Former Princeton Tiger Danny Barnes registered his first career Major League Baseball victory as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Milwaukee Brewers, 4-3, at Miller Park last night.
Barnes came into the game in bottom of the fifth inning with Blue Jays in front, 4-3, and one out. After a double steal put two runners in scoring position, the reliever struck out Ryan Braun, the 2011 National League Most Valuable Player, and Travis Shaw to escape the jam. He followed that with a 1-2-3 frame in the sixth stanza.
Toronto's Ryan Tepera and Joe Smith shut down the Brewers in the seventh and eight frames before Roberto Osuna recorded his seventh save of the year with a scoreless ninth.
The Blue Jays improved to 20-26 on the season while the Brewers fell to 25-20. Barnes is the second former Tiger in back-to-back years to earn his first MLB win as Matt Bowman '13 nabbed a victorious decision last June for the St. Louis Cardinals.
