Senior Alex Day and junior Luke Gamble battled to a third set with Mississippi State's Niclas Braun and Trevor Foshey in the first round of the NCAA Doubles Championship at Georgia, but the MSU pair won the tiebreak to advance.
Day and Gamble earned an automatic bid by ranking 59th in the nation and the top Ivy team in the most recent ITA rankings, released May 4. Braun and Foshey are ranked eighth.
In their first match together since April 16, Day and Gamble fell 6-4 in the opening set before rebounding for a 6-3 second-set win to send the match to a tiebreak, which Braun and Foshey won 10-5 to advance to the Round of 16.
Day and Gamble were making Princeton's first appearance in the NCAA Doubles Championship since Kyle Kliegerman '01 and John Portlock '01 in 2001.
