Tigers Play for Ivy League Tournament Title Sunday at Cornell

EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton is 13-3 overall after having dispatched Penn 17-8 in the Ivy League Tournament semifinals on Friday. The Tigers are playing in the championship game for the fourth time and seeking their third title. Princeton is ranked No. 7 in the latest IWLCA poll and is No. 5 in the NCAA RPI.
The Tigers average 15.06 goals per game, the 11th best scoring offense in the country, and limit teams to 9.81 goals per game. Princeton ranks seventh in the NCAA in assists, as 51 percent of its goals have been set up.
Tewaaraton top-25 nominee Olivia Hompe leads the offense with 94 points on 63 goals and 31 assists. She is the NCAA leader in goals per game and is third in points per game. On Friday she tallied nine points with three goals and six assists and is just one point away from the Princeton record in points as she currently has 269. Junior Colby Chanenchuk has a team-high 34 assists and has scored 13 times - her most memorable goal being the game-winner in overtime to beat Cornell two weeks ago. Freshman Tess D'Orsi has 35 goals and 11 assists for 46 points. After a four-goal game on Friday, sophomore Elizabeth George has 28 points, while junior Ellie McNulty and sophomore Kathryn Hallett have 27 apiece. George and McNulty are two of Princeton's best on the draw, along with defender Madeline Rodriguez. Rodriguez and fellow defender Amanda Leavell have the most caused turnovers on the team and have two of the best numbers in ground balls. The 2016 NCAA DI Goalie of the Year and Tewaaraton Top-25 nominee Ellie DeGarmo is the backbone of the Princeton defense. Her 55.1 save percentage is the second-best in the nation, as she averages 12.1 saves per game, to go along with a 9.90 goals against average.
THE SERIES
Princeton holds a 36-5 lead over Cornell in the all-time series, since it first began in 1980. The Tigers won the regular-season meeting 12-11 in double overtime. Princeton has a 17-1 record when playing Cornell in Ithaca, it's lone loss being an 8-2 game in 1988. Cornell's last victory was a 10-9 overtime game in the Ivy League Tournament last year at Penn. The teams have met twice in the Ivy League Tournament in 2014 and 2016, but never in the championship game.
SCOUTING THE BIG RED
Cornell is 12-4 overall and ranked No. 11 in both national polls. The Big Red earned the No. 1 seed in the Ivy League Tournament based on goal differential after a three-way tie with Princeton and Penn. This is the second time Cornell has reached the championship game They won it last year for the firs time. Cornell is ranked No. 14 in the NCAA RPI and No. 19 in the SOS.
The Big Red average 12. 56 goals per game and ranked seventh in the nation in scoring defense. They average 29.8 shots per game, convert on half of their free positions and clear at a clip of 83 percent.
Amie Dickson leads the offense with 64 points on 27 goals and a team-best 37 assists. She also ranks second on the team in draws with 31. Catherine Ellis has a team-high 40 goals and adds 14 assists for 54 points. Sarah Phillips and Kristy Gilbert are also scoring options with 47 and 36 points, respectively. Defender Catie Smith is the team leader in caused turnovers and draw controls. She has caused 37 turnovers, 20 more than any of her teammates, and has 39 draws. Renee Poullott owns every decision in goal and has an 8.36 GAA, 10th best in the NCAA, and ranks fourth in the nation in save percentage at .520.
