IRA CHAMPIONSHIPS: Live Results l Princeton IRA Preview l Princeton's History at the IRAs
(Below the preview are all the pertinent race times for all Princeton men's lightweight boats for the weekend, including the lane assignments for the opening heat.)
One race — one chance to put it all together — is all Princeton asked for in the lead-up to the IRA Championships.
One race is exactly what they will get.
The Princeton lightweight men put about three seconds between them and Georgetown in the first of two IRA semifinals Friday morning on Lake Natoma, which earned them a spot in Sunday's 3:05 ET (12:05 local) grand final at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center. Both Cornell and Columbia — the last two national champions in the sport — claimed the top two spots, but the only important goal for Friday was top three.
Princeton's time of 5:56.289 was more than three seconds faster than Georgetown, so the Tigers will get the chance to put together their best race and see where it stacks up with the rest of the field.
There were no major surprises in the men's lightweight field, as the top six at Sprints were the same six that qualified for the grand final. Princeton will row out of Lane 1 in the national championship, which you can watch live by using the links above.
Both the varsity four and the varsity four without coxswain also advanced to Sunday's grand finals. The four finished third and will race at 12:10 pm ET (9:10 local), while the four without coxswain, which has medalled at each of the last two IRAs, won its heat and will race at 11:20 am ET (8:20 local).
