Chessie Jackson Hired As TCNJ's Head Women's Basketball Coach
June 08, 2017 | Women's Basketball
PRINCETON, N.J. – Former Princeton assistant coach Chessie Jackson has been announced as the head coach of the The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) women's basketball team, the school announced.
Â
Jackson spent the past two seasons at Princeton prior to her hiring at TCNJ. She assisted in all parts of the program including player development, on-floor coaching, recruiting, and scouting.
She is the second assistant under coach Banghart to receive a head coach position in consecutive years as Megan Griffith was hired by Columbia in 2016.
Â
"Chessie will be a great addition to the TCNJ community," said Banghart via TCNJ's announcement. "She will lead with passion and compassion, a clear sense of purpose and competitive drive, and will be a valued teammate in the athletic department and in the greater school community."
Â
The Tigers' head coach also said "We're in the business of growing leaders and to have Megan (Columbia), and now Chessie (TCNJ) leave our program to join the ranks as head coaches is something I'm really proud of for our entire program."
Â
In her two seasons with Princeton, the Tigers reached the postseason twice. In 2016-17, the team finished second in the Ivy League during the regular season, advanced to the Ivy League Tournament Championship Game and went to the WNIT. Bella Alarie was honored as the Ivy League Rookie of the Year, All-Ivy League first team and Ivy League All-Tournament team. Leslie Robinson was named to the All-Ivy League second team and Ivy League All-Tournament team.
Â
The 2015-16 squad made Ivy League history as it became the first school in conference history to make the NCAA Tournament with an at-large bid. The squad ranked in the top 10 nationally in rebounding margin (third), defensive rebounds per game (fourth), rebounds per game (seventh) and scoring margin (seventh).
