Klausner Pitches U.S. Maccabi Softball Team to Gold
July 13, 2017 | Softball
New alumna Claire Klausner '17 pitched the U.S. entry in the Maccabiah Games softball tournament to a gold medal Thursday in Israel as the Americans won their final six games of the tournament.
The U.S. faced Israel and Canada three times apiece before meeting the Canadians again in the final. Klausner had three of the team's first five wins and then allowed just a run over five innings in the final to claim gold, 8-1.Â
Princeton assistant Nicole Arias, this year's U.S. Maccabi team's head coach, helped the U.S. to gold as a player in each of the last two Maccabiah Games in 2009 and 2013.Â
Klausner, the 2017 Ivy League Pitcher of the Year, led Princeton with an 11-7 record in a team-high 125 innings during her final season in the spring, striking out a staff-best 71 batters. Klausner had the ball in both of Princeton's NCAA tournament games in May, starting the opener against Florida State while holding the fourth-ranked Seminoles to three runs. She then entered the Jacksonville State game, Princeton's season finale, in relief for 2 2/3 innings.
Klausner graduated last month from Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and did her senior thesis on rural economic development in China.Â
