Matt Kolodzik Set To Compete In Jadwin During 2017 NWCA Classic
September 27, 2017 | Wrestling
The Jadwin faithful will have one of its own to cheer for during the 2017 NWCA Classic.
Matthew Kolodzik, who completed a historic freshman season that included an All-American finish and only Princeton's second Ivy League Rookie of the Year honor, will represent Princeton during the annual preseason event, which comes to Jadwin Gym on Nov. 5, 2017. The reigning EIWA champion at 141 pounds, Kolodzik went 30-4 last season, had six victories over Top-20 opponents, and didn't lose a match to a wrestler ranked outside the Top 8.
Set to move up to 149 this season, Kolodzik was ranked fifth in the FloWrestling preseason poll.
"This is a well-deserved honor for Matt, and it only raises our excitement to host this great event," said Chris Ayres, the two-time reigning Ivy League Coach of the Year, as well as the 2017 EIWA Coach of the Year. "Matt came in with a lot of expectations, and I thought he surpassed them. To become Princeton's 10th All-American, an EIWA champion, the Ivy Rookie of the Year and win 30 matches as a true freshman is just an incredible year. I know Matt isn't satisfied, and he has even higher goals for himself this year. This will be an exciting way for him, and our program, to start off what should be an exciting season."
