FRIDAY LINKS: Live Video l Live Stats
The Princeton men's volleyball team will make its 2018 home debut Friday at 7 pm in a Dillon Court showdown with Fort Wayne, a match set to be streamed on the Ivy League Network. The Tigers, who have already faced four teams ranked inside the AVCA Top 15, will be playing their only match outside of California until Feb. 9, and it will be their only home match until Feb. 23.
Princeton (1-3) turned heads throughout college volleyball last weekend with a 3-2 thriller over #8 Stanford, marking its highest-ranked win in more than 20 years. While the All-EIVA duo of George Huhmann and Parker Dixon have impressed early this season, the standout of that victory was fellow sophomore Greg Luck, who posted career bests in kills (21), digs (10) and blocks (6) in the 28-26, 17-25, 25-22, 22-25, 16-14 victory over the Cardinal.
For the season, Huhmann leads Princeton in kills (3.13), blocks (0.87) and points (4.00) per set, and his 20-kill effort nearly helped Princeton upset 12th-ranked USC. He formed a quick early chemistry with freshman setter Joe Kelly, who is averaging just under 8.3 assists per set, and who recorded 45 in the victory over Stanford.
While Kelly has been consistent throughout the season, head coach Sam Shweisky was excited by the final performance of fellow rookie Jess Hunt, who had 11 kills in a loss to #11 CSUN to end the California trip.
Fort Wayne (2-0) enters the weekend with a pair of home wins over Emmanuel and Lees-McRae. This will be the second meeting between the two schools, and if it matches the drama of the first, the fans will be in for a show in the Tigers' home opener. Fort Wayne took the only other meeting (2014) by a 21-25, 26-24, 24-26, 25-19, 15-13 score.
