Rodriguez, Seggerman Play On at ITA Northeast Regional
October 14, 2018 | Men's Tennis
Sophomore Damian Rodriguez won twice Sunday to advance to the quarterfinal round at the ITA Northeast Regional at the Lenz Tennis Center and Jadwin Gym, while Rodriguez and classmate Ryan Seggerman won their doubles match to advance to Monday's doubles semifinals.
One round of doubles and two rounds of singles are planned for Monday, with doubles beginning at 9 a.m. and singles not before noon.
Updated draws are available here.
Princeton began the day with six singles players but lost three in the round of 32, with Bill Duo and Davey Roberts falling to ITA-ranked opponents and Karl Poling being unable to play due to illness.
Rodriguez, Seggerman and Will Peters moved on to the round of 16, where Seggerman came within a tiebreak of knocking off 40th-ranked Jackie Tang of Columbia before falling in three sets and Peters doing the same against 75th-ranked Charlie Broom of Dartmouth.
That left Rodriguez, who beat Dartmouth's Peter Conklin in straight sets in the round of 16, as the last Tiger standing in the singles draw. He'll face Harvard's 112th-ranked Andy Zhou in Monday's quarterfinals.
Duo and Justin Barki fell in the doubles quarters to Columbia's eighth-ranked and top-seeded Jack Lin and William Matheson, leaving Rodriguez and Seggerman, who beat Penn's Kyle Mautner and Dmitry Shatalin, as the last Tiger duo going in doubles play. Rodriguez and Seggerman will now take their chance against Lin and Matheson in Monday's semifinal.
