Princeton Posts Record Day in Winning Brown Bear Fall Invite
October 15, 2018 | Women's Golf
Posting its best single-round score in program history, the Princeton women's golf team trimmed 17 strokes from its Sunday score to win the Brown Bear Fall Invitational at Ledgemont Country Club in Seekonk, Mass.
Princeton turned in a 286, breaking a seven-year-old record also set at a Brown-hosted event, allowing the team to jump from a third-place tie following Sunday's round to clearing runner-up Quinnipiac by 15 strokes to win the tournament title. The previous single-round record of 287 was set at the 2011 Brown Invitational, a spring event at Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington, R.I.
Princeton's two-round score of 589 ties the team's best score from a 36-hole event, also a number set at the 2011 Brown Invitational, and Monday saw the team get its second eagle of the tournament, with Tiana Lau following up Sophie Siminoff's feat on the same par-five 17th hole.
Maya Walton and Emma Zhao co-led Princeton at even par, tying for second overall and two strokes behind winner Linda Wang of St. John's.
All five Tigers playing under the team banner cut their scores from Sunday to Monday, none more than Walton, who dropped from a 75 Sunday to card a 3-under 69 Monday. That matched Wang's Monday score for the low round of the tournament.
The tournament title was Princeton's second of the fall season, as the team bookended its fall with the Brown title to go with a season-opening win at Towson.
