Tigers Extend Shutout Streak in Scoreless Draw
October 16, 2018 | Men's Soccer
Sophomore Jack Roberts helped the Princeton men's soccer team extend its shutout streak over Drexel to more than 740 minutes in his first career start on Tuesday night.
A dual-sport athlete who is also a member of the golf team, Roberts made five saves in his first appearance in goal.
A number of Tigers were able to see action tonight, in the final non-conference game of the season, with seven getting in off the bench. The defense did a great job in limiting shots and winning corners - keeping Drexel to just eight shots and drawing 10 corner kicks.
Princeton had a big upperhand in the first half, outshooting Drexel 11-2, but weren't able to get anything past Stephen Kopsachilis in goal. The second half was more even with the Dragons getting the first scoring opportunity with a great leaping save by Roberts to keep things square. The final 20 minutes were all Princeton as the Tigers battled to break the deadlock with six shots to the Dragon's one.
In the series Princeton has seven consecutive shutouts, not allowing a goal in the series since 2002.
At 7-4-2 and unbeaten in the last five games, Princeton hosts Harvard on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Tigers are currently in first place in the Ivy League with a 2-0-1 record with four games remaining.
