Walter Bourne, Championship Golf Coach, to Receive GCAA Hall of Fame Induction

Walter Bourne, who coached the Princeton men's golf team to four league and five NCAA titles, will be inducted posthumously into the Golf Coaches Association of America Hall of Fame on Dec. 3 in Las Vegas.

Bourne will be the first Princeton honoree in the GCAA Hall of Fame, which will grow to 149 members with the 2018 class. Bourne will enter the Hall with Arkansas State coach Mike Hagen and former Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati coach John Reis.

While leading Princeton from 1928-42, Bourne had a 124-24-1 dual-match record for the third-most wins in program history. His teams won Eastern Intercollegiate Golf Association titles in 1928, 1930, 1938 and 1939 and NCAA titles in 1928, 1929, 1930, 1937 and 1940. He is the first Princeton coach on record, and though the NCAA lists championship coaches only from 1940, only two coaches, Dave Williams at Houston and Mike Holder at Oklahoma State, have as many as five NCAA titles.
