St. Francis Holds Off Princeton, 12-10; Tigers Remain No. 12 in Varsity Poll

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The St. Francis-Brooklyn Terriers held off the Princeton Tigers, 12-10, at the St. Francis College Aquatic Center on Wednesday night.
The home team did not give up a goal in the first quarter, taking an 1-0 advantage after eight minutes. St. Francis pushed forward with three of the next four tallies, improving its lead to three, 4-1, with 3:33 left in the first half. The Tigers trailed 4-2 after two quarters.
A close conference battle, Princeton climbed within one on four separate occasions in the third stanza, but could not tie the score. After the Tigers registered the first goal of the fourth frame, St. Francis posted the next two, setting the contest at 10-7 as the clock ticked under five minutes. The two Northeast Water Polo Conference foes exchanged goals before Ryan Wilson's tally with 27 seconds to go got the Tigers within striking distance, 11-10. The Terriers put the game away with an empty netter.

Princeton remained in the No. 12 position in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Varsity Poll, the organization announced earlier today. It is tied with UC-Irvine for 12th.
The top seven in the poll did not change as the USC stands at No. 1. UCLA, Stanford, California, UC-Santa Barbara fill out the rest of the top five. Harvard is the top NWPC team at No. 7.
Head coach Dustin Litvak's group makes the trip to MIT (12 p.m.) and Harvard (7 p.m.) on Oct. 6 and then take on Brown (10 a.m.) the next day.
