Walton Jumps Up Leaderboard Heading into Sunday's Final Round at Old Dominion
October 06, 2018 | Women's Golf
Trimming six shots from her first-round score, Maya Walton jumped from a tie for 26th to a tie for fourth at Old Dominion's Princess Anne Invitational Saturday at Princess Anne Country Club in Virginia Beach, Va.
Walton's back nine Saturday was particularly helpful to her rise up the leaderboard. After going 1-over on her front nine, which started on the 10th hole, Walton carded four birdies in her last nine holes to turn in a 67 for the round. Walton's score was one of three rounds of 67 for the two rounds of the tournament and bettered only by tournament leader Virunpat Olankitkunchai, who turned in a 65 Friday.
Olankitkunchai leads the field at -4, two strokes better than Central Florida's Elizabeth Moon. Chattanooga's Monica San Juan is third at -1, and Walton is one of five players tied for fourth at even par.
Princeton remained in 10th place despite doing four strokes better Saturday than in Friday's first round. Sacramento State took the lead at +13, leading runners-up Campbell and UCF by two strokes.
Sunday's final round will begin at 8 a.m. Results are available here.
