Colgate Sneaks by No. 15 Princeton, 2-1
November 16, 2018 | Men's Ice Hockey
Ken Citron scored the game-winning goal to lift Colgate to a 2-1 win over No. 15 Princeton on Friday night at Class of 1965 Arena.
The goal, his first since February 2016, went glove side on Ryan Ferland from the high slot at 13:37 of the third as the Raiders scored in transition with Jeff Stewart centering the pass.
After 40 minutes of scoreless hockey it was Princeton freshman Matt Kellenberger lighting the lamp first. Playing in his third game, he picked up the goal on the power-play early in the third at 1:14. Junior Derek Topatigh and freshman Christian O'Neill earned the assists.
Colgate's Trevor Cosgrove net the equalizer less than three minutes later with a wrister from the top of the left circle that made its way through traffic and past a screened Ferland.
Princeton pulled Ferland, who finished with 25 saves, for the final 1:02 and but the Tigers weren't able to tie it up in time.
The Tigers' RAM line of Ryan Kuffner-Alex Riche-Max Veronneau were held without a point for the first time this season.
The Tigers went 1 for 3 on the power play and 4 for 4 on the penalty kill.
Mitch Benson earned the win in goal with 33 saves as Princeton outshot Colgate 34-27.
Princeton looks to get back on track at No. 17 Cornell tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
