McQuigge Backstops Princeton to 2-2 Draw with No. 6 Cornell
November 17, 2018 | Women's Ice Hockey
After collecting her first career shutout yesterday against Colgate, sophomore Rachel McQuigge put up a 31-save performance against No. 6 Cornell as Princeton skate to a 2-2 draw with the Big Red.
Princeton (5-2-3, 4-0-2) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead thanks to power-play goals 1:19 apart. The Tigers converted on a 5x3 opportunity with Karlie Lund rifling in a goal from the slot, her sixth goal of the season. Claire Thompson and Sarah Fillier assisted on the marker.
Â
Annie MacDonald padded the lead with a 5x4 power-play goal with defenders Mariah Keopple and Stephanie Sucharda assisting.
Â
Cornell (5-1-3, 4-1-1) got on the board at 5:56 of the second period when Diana Buckley was able to knock in a drive by Jamie Bourbonnais.
A short-handed goal proved to be the game-tying goal as Lenka Serdar set up her own goal, winning a face off in the Princeton zone back to Bourbonnais before skating to the front of the goal for the redirection.
The Tigers killed off a late penalty in the third that carried over into the extra session and then fought off an elbowing call in overtime with McQuigge stopping five shots in the final five minutes.
The Tigers remain undefeated in ECAC Hockey action and remain in first place in the league standings at 4-0-2.
Princeton will take a break from action next week before resuming with its annual home-and-home series with travel partner Quinnipiac on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.
