Tigers Sweep First Round of Singles in Florida
November 02, 2018 | Men's Tennis
deThe Lakewood Ranch Invitational welcomed four members of the Princeton men's tennis team to Sarasota, Fla., beginning Friday for up to three days of clay-court competition.
Princeton opened play Friday with its two doubles teams taking first-round defeats, and with Davey Roberts and Bill Duo battling Notre Dame's Johnathan Small and Guillermo Cabrera to a tiebreak before a 7-6(4) defeat.
Play continued with two rounds of singles beginning at 11 a.m., and the four Tigers, including Roberts, Duo, Will Peters and Payton Holden, swept their first-round matches. Peters and Holden went on to drop their round-of-16 matches, and rain suspended play with Duo in a third set against Michigan's Steven Forman and Roberts in the second set after his opponent, Florida's McClain Kessler, won the first.
Saturday's play will begin at 8 a.m. with the resumption of the second round of singles matches and then continue with quarterfinals at 11 a.m. with semifinals to follow.
