Women's Swimming & Diving Claims Seven Event Wins, Team Victories In Season-Opening Meet at FAU

COMPLETE RESULTS
The Princeton women's swimming and diving team capped a terrific training week in Florida with a strong performance in a tri-meet in Boca Raton, Fla. The Tigers posted seven individual wins and several Top-3 performances to help grab team victories over both Florida Gulf Coast (170-129) and Florida Atlantic (208-92).
Princeton got its season off to a strong start by winning the 200 medley in 1:46.13. A pair of All-Ivy senior captains, Joanna Curry and Izzy Reis, joined Jenny Ma and Cathy Teng to win the event in 1:46.13.
The first individual win of the day went to Lauren McGrath, who edged Teng by less than a quarter second to win the 200 free in 1:52.96. Curry grabbed her first individual win in the 100 back, and she also did it in a tight race over a freshman teammate. Curry won in 57.41, while Vivian Wang took second in 57.50. Wang came back strong in the 100 fly, as she won that race in 56.70.
Sophomore Stephanie Nelson led a 1-2-3 Princeton finish in the 200 back. She took the race in 2:04.06, while Christie Chong finished second in 2:04.54, and Regan Barney finished third in 2:06.44.
Barney is the reigning Ivy League champion in the 400 IM, and she looked strong in that event Friday afternoon. The Princeton sophomore took the win in 4:26.46, while Curry (4:30.52), Lily Mannion (4:34.92) and Ailee Mendoza (4:36.89) took the next three spots.
Princeton also had a 1-2-3 finish in the 1-meter board in the debut event for new diving coach Sean Letsinger. Junior Natasha MacManus won the event with 274.75 points, while Mimi Lin finished second in 255.40. Carolyn MacFarlane rounded out the Top 3 with 247.10 points.
Head coach Bret Lundgaard shared the following thoughts after the meet:
"We've had a great week of training. As for the meet, the main theme was probably the contribution of the freshmen. Many of them scored highly in multiple events and are nicely inserting themselves into the competitive identity of this team.
There were some exciting swims from some people who don't always garner the attention. Lily Mannion swam her 400 IM as fast as she went all of last year. Sophia Marusic did the same in the 500 free. Those two have been really engaged in practices so far and it shows.
Overall, it's great for us to get into racing season so that we can see the reality of the habits we've formed in practice this year. We look forward to addressing the areas we see we can improve and next week will be a great challenge for us to continue to test ourselves against some awesome competition."
Princeton will host the Big Al Open next weekend at DeNunzio Pool.
