EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton looks to rebound from an 0-2 weekend that pushed the Tigers to 3-3-1. Ranked No. 18 in the nation, two of the Tigers' three losses have been to nationally ranked teams. At 3-2-1 in the ECAC, Princeton is second in the league standings. Four seniors pave the path with Ryan Kuffner totalling 13 points in seven games. Max Veronneau has a team-high eight assists and nine total points. Alex Riche, the center of that line, has eight points on three goals and five assists. Defenseman Josh Teves has scored twice and adds six assists for eight points. Princeton's power play ranks second in the nation, converting 36 percent of the time, while the penalty kill has allowed just three goals to rank seventh at 88 percent. Sophomore Ryan Ferland has a .913 save percentage and a 2.66 goals against average as the starting goaltender for Princeton.
SCOUTING THE MINUTEMEN
UMass is off to its best start in program history at 10-1 and are reaping the rewards sitting at No. 4 in the USCHO national poll. The team sits atop the Hockey East standings with a perfect 6-0 record. The team's lone loss was a 3-1 game at Ohio State, as they split a pair with the Buckeyes. Since that time the squad is 7-0 including wins over Holy Cross and UNH last weekend. UMass averages 3.91 goals per game - the 4th best scoring offense in the nation - with balanced effort of 11 players having at least one goal. Sophomore Mitchell Chaffee has the most tallies with eight and adds six assists for 14 points. Classmates Cale Makar (COL) has five goals and 10 assists, and John Leonard (SJS) has five goals and 11 assists. The power-play has been strong, at 34.8 percent - ranking right behind Princeton nationally. The power play is tied for fifth allowing just six goals on 51 opportunities. Defensively, the team allows just 1.82 goals per game - second nationally. Sophomore Matt Murray and freshman Filip Lindberg have split time in net. Murray is 7-0 with a 1.72 GAA and a .938 save percentage. Lindberg is 3-1 with a 1.73 GAA and a .936 save percentage.
THE PRINCETON/UMass SERIES
Princeton has a two-game edge in the all-time series with UMass, 6-4. The Tigers won the last meeting,a 4-3 decision in Princeton on Dec. 13, 2016. That game snapped a three-game losing skid with UMass's last win being a 4-0 ame on Dec. 29, 2005 in Amherst.
