Payne and Maloney Score NWPC Weekly Awards; Princeton No. 17 in Varsity Poll

PRINCETON, N.J. – Matt Payne and Keller Maloney picked up Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) weekly accolades while Princeton remained steady at No. 17 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Varsity Poll, the organization announced.
Payne was selected as the NWPC Offensive Player of the Week as he ended his regular season with a flurry over the last three games, securing seven goals and 13 assists. He posted nine points in a loss to No. 19 Pomona-Pitzer before posting six more in an impressive 10-8 victory over No. 18 St. Francis-Brooklyn. He finished the weekend with another hat trick and two helpers against Iona as Princeton secured the 3rd seed in the NWPC Tournament.
Maloney earned NWPC Rookie of the Week posted two hat tricks in the team's three games over the week. He registered one against No. 19 Pomona-Pitzer and another against Iona on Sunday. He snagged one tally and three steals as Princeton earned the win over No. 18 St. Francis-Brooklyn.
USC remains as the top team in the Varsity Poll while UCLA jumped to No. 2. Stanford and Cal., wrap up the top five. Harvard is the top NWPC squad in the poll.
Princeton will be the No. 3 seed in the Northeast Water Polo Conference Tournament (Nov. 16-18) and take on Iona on Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. The winner of that contest battles No. 2 seeded St. Francis-Brooklyn on Saturday (Nov. 17) at 3 p.m. The loser will play for fifth place on Saturday at 1 p.m.
