EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton is looking for repeat success at the Wells Fargo Center and head into the holiday break on a high note. The Tigers are 3-8-1 overall, have lost the last seven games and have fallen out of the national rankings. Princeton's offense is led by two All-Americans: Ryan Kuffner and Max Véronneau. Kuffner has nine goals and eight assists for 17 points, while Véronneau has three goals and 12 assists for 15 points. Junior Jackson Cressey adds 10 points, as does senior defenseman Josh Teves. All four players are on the Tigers' power-play unit, along with Alex Riche, which ranks ninth nationally, at 25 percent. In goal, sophomore Ryan Ferland has a .908 save percentage and a 2.96 goals against average in the 12 games he has been in goal.
SCOUTING THE NITTANY LIONS
With an 11-5-1 overall record, Penn State is ranked ninth in the latest USCHO national poll. The squad has the best scoring offense in the country averaging 5.29 goals per game with the top scoring line of Alex Limoges-Evan Barratt-Liam Folkes. Barratt is second in the nation in points per game with 1.71, while Limoges is third with 1.65. Twelve players on the roster are in double digits in points. The power play is third in the nation at 29.3 percent, while the penalty kill is 32nd at 80.3 percent. In goal, junior Peyton Jones is 7-3-1 with a .902 save percentage and a 3.35 goals against average. Backup Chris Funkey has an .876 save percentage and a 3.72 GAA in the six games he has played.
THE PRINCETON/PENN STATE SERIES
This is the fourth meeting between Princeton and Penn State. The Nittany Lions took a 4-2 game on Oct. 26 at Pegula in Princeton's season opener, while it was the fifth straight win for Penn State. Princeton won the first meeting at Wells Fargo Center, a 5-4 win on Jan. 28, 2017 when the Nittany Lions were ranked fifth and the Tigers were unranked.
