Kuffner and Veronneau Have Four-Point Games as Tigers Rally in Draw with Penn State

Senior All-Americans Ryan Kuffner and Max Véronneau both had four-point games as Princeton rallied from a three-goal deficit to play No. 9 Penn State to a 4-4 draw on Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Center.
Kuffner and Véronneau matched their career highs with the four-point games. Kuffner has now had four in his career and Veronneau three.
Véronneau moves into third place in all-time assists at Princeton with 82, jumping in front of Jeff Halpern '99. With 126 career points he is sixth all-time, right behind Kuffner who has 129 points in fifth place.
Senior Josh Teves lit the lamp just 2:24 into the game on an odd-man rush with Kuffner and Véronneau assisting as the Tigers converted on their first shot on goal.
The Nittany Lions responded four minutes later with a Brandon Biro tally that sent the team on a four-goal run.
Nate Sucese and Ludvig Larsson teamed up for a short-handed break on Princeton's first power play opportunity at 9:15. Chase Berger knocked in a deflection by Derian Hamilton to expand the lead to 4-1 at 15:40.
A quick goal 17 seconds into the second period saw Penn State (11-5-2) take a 4-1 lead and the end of the game for Ryan Ferland. Senior Austin Shaw came in on relief and stopped all 21 shots he faced in his fourth career appearance. Shaw stoned Sucese on the left pipe on an odd-man rush and settled down the Tigers who went to work offensively.
Véronneau tallied back-to-back goals his first at 17:03 of the second and then added another at 15:28 of the third to get Princeton (3-8-2) within one. Kuffner and Alex Riche assisted on both markers.
The Tigers continued to get in some chances in the final minutes with a run down the gut by Véronneau clanking off the cross bar and landing to the right of the goal where Kuffner took advantage and lifted it past Jones for the game-tying goal at 18:52.
Véronneau was denied the hat trick with 1:49 remaining in overtime with a huge pad save by Jones on the right side.
Jones finished the game with 31 saves.
Princeton was 0 for 3 on the power play, and Penn State was 0 for 2.
The Tigers will take a two-week break and return to action hosting Maine in a two-game series at Hobey Baker Rink on Dec. 28 and 29.
