Princeton Outlasts Lehigh, 18-12

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (2/27/18) - After taking an eight-goal lead No. 14 Princeton was able to withstand a Lehigh run to earn an 18-12 win at Ulrich Sports Complex on Tuesday evening.
The Tigers quickly jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first 11:11 of the game with freshman Kyla Sears scoring half of her team's eight tallies. It wouldn't be so easy however as the Mountain Hawks rallied to cut the deficit to three midway through the second half.
Lehigh (2-2) finally got on the board with a Sondra Dickey goal at 17:56 but senior Camille Sullivan answered back just 28 seconds later. The teams would trade three goals apiece to end the first half, 12-5 in favor of the Tigers.

The Mountain Hawks had to make some adjustments in the second half, one of which was moving defender Olivia Kelly to a more offensive midfield position. Kelly scored twice to begin the second half to buoy her team and begin a 6-2 run which would cut the Tigers' lead to 14-11 at 12:07.

With Sears leaving the game 13 minutes into the second half due to two yellow cards, Lehigh was hit with a loss as Julianne D'Orazio was taken off the field with an injury and would not return.
Princeton (2-1) got unassisted goals from both Elizabeth George and Ellie McNulty during that time and swapped goalkeeper Mary Kate McDonogh for Sam Fish to try to change the tides.

The Tigers used a four-goal run in a span of 6:02 to regain a healthier lead at 18-11. Sullivan scored twice with sophomore Tess D'Orsi and senior Julia Haney both scoring as well.

Lehigh had one last effort from Kellie Gough with 47 seconds left as Princeton earned the 18-12 victory in its first of four consecutive road games.

George had a team-high six points on three goals and three assists. Sears had four goals and D'Orsi had one goal and three assists. Sullivan tallied three goals and had two caused turnovers, while junior Kathryn Hallett and Haney each added two goals and one assist apiece McNulty scored twice and won seven draw controls and freshman Marge Donovan added seven draws as well. McDonough made seven saves in the win, while Fish stopped one in her 15:08 of action.

Samantha Sagi made six saves for Lehigh as Princeton had a 38-24 edge in shots. Princeton also won the ground ball battle 17-14, and draws 19-13.

The Tigers begin Ivy League action on Saturday, March 3 at Brown. Game time is at 1 p.m.
