Women's Tennis Team Sweeps Delaware as No. 12 Auburn Awaits Sunday in Jadwin
February 03, 2018 | Women's Tennis
Taking two of three in the doubles point and a singles straight-set sweep led Princeton to a 7-0 win over Delaware Saturday afternoon in Jadwin Gym.
The win lifted Princeton to 2-0 on the new dual-match season, but a big challenge awaits Sunday when No. 12 Auburn visits Jadwin for an 10 a.m. start (time change from 11 a.m.). Auburn enters at 6-0 after a 7-0 win Friday at Cornell to begin their two-match weekend visit to the Ivy League.
The doubles pair of Clare McKee and Katrine Steffensen won in both singles and doubles, taking the match on court two in doubles play to clinch the point after Sara Goodwin and Nathalie Rodilosso, who gave way to Gaby Pollner and Tiffany Chen in singles play, got the Tigers off to a winning start on court three. Delaware prevented the doubles sweep with a win on court one over Nicole Kalhorn and Stephanie Schrage, who went on to win their singles matches.
All six singles matches went to Princeton without any Tiger player giving up more than three games in a set.
Sunday's match will be the second meeting between the two Tiger teams after a Princeton win in 1981 at the home of another set of Tigers, Clemson. Princeton's span of three matches in four days, which began Thursday with a sweep of Temple, starts a run of as many as 12 home matches through the early part of March. Princeton will host the ECAC Championship next weekend.
