March 29, 2018 | Men's Tennis
Ivy League play will open Saturday for the Princeton men's tennis team with a 1 p.m. match at Penn. Twitter updates will be available @PtonMensTennis.
The Tigers stand 15-7 entering the Ivy season, having won two of their three matches on their spring trip to Florida. Penn is 11-9 and has won four in a row, including a March 11 4-2 win at home over a Penn State team that defeated the Tigers 4-3 six days later in State College. Both teams have also played Cornell (Princeton won, Penn lost), Binghamton (both won), Charlotte (both won), Monmouth (both won) and Temple (both won).
Princeton is 94-14-1 all-time against Penn, and the Tigers won the last meeting, 4-3 at the end of the 2017 season in Princeton. The Tiger seniors are 3-1 against Penn, losing in Philadelphia in 2016 after winning there during the ECAC Championship earlier that season.
Senior Luke Gamble and sophomore Davey Roberts lead the Tigers in singles wins during the dual-match season, each with 12, and sophomore Payton Holden and rookie Ryan Seggerman have rolled up a 13-5 dual-match record.
Following the Penn match, the Tigers will split sites the following weekend, hosting Cornell next Friday and visiting current ITA No. 13 Columbia Sunday.
