Harvard Takes Sunday's Series Finale
April 01, 2018 | Softball
Sunday's series finale at Harvard started off well for the Princeton softball team, but the Crimson roared back to take a 9-3 win and sweep the three-game visit from the Tigers.
In the top of the first, an Allison Harvey base hit put a runner on for Keeley Walsh, who hit a two-run home run to put the Tigers up 2-0 before a Kaylee Grant RBI single later in the inning added another run.
That was all the scoring for the Tigers, though, as Princeton had five hits and two walks over the final six frames but left five runners on and saw three more erased on the basepaths. Harvard, meanwhile, began to chip away with a Meagan Lantz solo homer in the first and back-to-back singles around an error in the third before a big fourth inning put the Crimson up for good. Six straight Crimson reached in that inning with a three-run Katie Duncan home run as the highlight for Harvard before Rhianna Rich cashed in a double and a walk earlier in the sixth with a three-run homer to extend the lead to 9-3.
Duncan threw four innings to get the win for Harvard before Sarah Smith threw three to get the save. Allie Reynolds went 3 1/3 for Princeton to take the loss before handing the ball to LaGuardia for the final 2 2/3.Â
Princeton will play again Saturday for two and next Sunday for one against Dartmouth, both 12:30 p.m. starts at '95 Field on the Ivy League Network.
