Meyer Named Ivy Rookie of the Week, Suburban Transit/GPT Athlete of the Week
April 16, 2018 | Softball
A week that saw Mackenzie Meyer hit a pair of home runs to help Princeton sweep Yale over the weekend and battle Monmouth in a midweek contest has earned the Tiger rookie outfielder the honor as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week and the GoPrincetonTigers.com/Suburban Transit Athlete of the Week.
Meyer went 6 for 14 with two doubles, two home runs, two walks and five RBI for a slash line of .429/.500/1.000 on the week, striking out just once. On the season, Meyer leads the team with five home runs, and a .339/.391/.695 slash line.Â
It's the second Ivy League Rookie of the Week honor of the season for the Tigers, who saw Allie Reynolds earn that honor as well as Ivy Pitcher of the Week after a no-hitter against Florida A&M last month.
Meyer's efforts helped Princeton remain in contention for a berth in the Ivy League Championship Series with three weekends to play. At 6-6 in the Ivy, Princeton is 3 1/2 back of leader Harvard with three games in hand and 2 1/2 back of second-place Dartmouth, which has a game in hand on Princeton, for the final ILCS berth. After a non-league trip to Lehigh Wednesday, Princeton will return to Ivy play Saturday and Sunday at Columbia.
