Dartmouth Takes Series Over Princeton
April 07, 2018 | Softball
A combined four home runs from Dartmouth's Micah Schroder, Morgan Martinelli and Taylor Ward lifted Dartmouth to a 12-1, five-inning win over the Princeton softball team that won the weekend series for the Big Green at the Class of 1895 Field.
The Tigers will host Monmouth Tuesday at 4 p.m. at '95 Field in a single game, with free admission and streamed on the Ivy League Network, before returning to Ivy play next weekend at Yale.
Schroder hit the first pitch of the game over the fence in centerfield to get Dartmouth on the board, and after a walk to Martinelli, Ward had a two-run shot to make it 3-0 before the Tigers took their first swings. A double a walk and a Martinelli base hit pushed the Dartmouth lead to 4-0 in the second, and after a third inning in which the Big Green left two, Dartmouth got back at it in the fourth, making it 5-0 when Schroder had the last of three straight singles to start the inning. Martinelli followed with a three-run homer, and after a walk, Ward had her second of the game to make it 10-0.
Princeton spoiled the shutout in the fourth when Danielle Dockx's two-out double picked up a Mackenzie Meyer single, with Meyer finishing 2 for 2 on the day.
Breanna Ethridge had the win for Dartmouth with Allie Reynolds taking the loss for Princeton in three innings of work before Ashley LaGuardia and Caroline Taber threw an inning apiece in relief.
