Tigers Rally, But Monmouth Takes 13-7 Win

Princeton had just a Mackenzie Meyer single over the first three innings as Monmouth rolled up a 7-0 lead. The Hawks had a hit batter, a single, four walks and two wild pitches to score four runs in the first, and a solo homer for Sam Tomasetti in the second made it 5-0. Kayla Rosado added a two-run homer in the fourth for a 7-0 lead.
Princeton got on the board in the fourth, when a Meyer double followed a Keeley Walsh single, but the big inning was the fifth. An Alex Colón double started a run of five straight hits that helped Princeton pull within 7-4, including a Joey Smith RBI-single and a Megan Donahey RBI-double. Walsh then made it six hits in a row with a three-run homer to tie it at 7-7.
But, Monmouth pulled back in front when walks were again Princeton's bugaboo, as four free passes and a hit in the sixth added up to a run for an 8-7 Monmouth lead before leaving the bases loaded. The Hawks broke it open in the seventh, using two walks and a hit batter to set up a Rosado RBI-single, and Alex Holzman had a three-run homer to push the lead to 13-7 before Princeton went in order in the last of the seventh.
Megan Stauffer got the win in relief for Monmouth, bouncing back after giving up the three-run home run to retire the last seven batters she faced and eight of the last nine. Ashley LaGuardia threw the first three innings for Princeton before giving way to Caroline Taber, who took the loss in relief.
The Tigers will be back in action at Yale Saturday for two and Sunday for one, both with 12:30 p.m. starts on the Ivy League Network.
