Schedule Change: Ivy Play to Resume This Weekend at Yale
April 12, 2018 | Softball
The fourth of seven Ivy League softball weekends will bring the Princeton softball team to Yale for one game Friday at 2 p.m. and two games Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
The series was originally scheduled for Saturday-Sunday, but likely rain Sunday shifted the dates. Links to the Ivy League Network stream and live stats are available on the schedule page here.
Princeton has won five in a row against Yale, sweeping doubleheaders in each of the last two years as well as a single game in 2015, when the teams met only once.Â
The Bulldogs enter the weekend at 7-22 overall and 4-8 in the Ivy League, looking to end a five-game skid. Yale hits .251 as a team with Sydney Grobman posting a team-best .351 batting average and Annie Tarte tallying a team-high 30 hits. Shelby Kennedy, hitting .312, leads the Ivy with 19 stolen bases. In the circle, Terra Jerpbak, who has a league-best 67 strikeouts, is 4-6 with a 3.83 ERA, Miranda Papes, at 2-10 with a 3.88 ERA, and Francesca Casalino, who is 1-4 with a 3.86 ERA, have contributed to the team's collective 3.97 ERA.Â
Jerpbak, whose sister Skye is in the Princeton softball Class of 2016, started the first game against the Tigers last year but didn't get out of the first inning while getting charged with four runs in a 9-1, five-inning Tiger win. Casalino threw all six innings for Yale in a 2-0 Tiger win, and Princeton graduated both its pitchers from last year's games against Yale in Claire Klausner '17 and Erica Nori '17.
Rookies Mackenzie Meyer and Emily Taggart have team-best .333 batting averages for the Tigers while leadoff hitter and sophomore Megan Donahey leads the team with 27 hits. Freshman Allie Reynolds (3-11, 6.06) and senior Ashley LaGuardia (2-7, 8.45) have started all of the team's Ivy games and have thrown 138 of the team's 159 innings.
Following the weekend, Princeton will play its final non-conference game of the regular season, heading Wednesday to head coach Lisa Van Ackeren's alma mater Lehigh, before returning to Ivy play next weekend at Columbia.
