2018-19 Schedule
Tournaments at Alabama and Penn will open the season for the Princeton men's tennis team on Sept. 14 as the program released its 2018-19 schedule.
"Our schedule presents a great opportunity to take on some of the nation's best teams while challenging our team to be at their best throughout the fall and spring season," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "With a nice blend of eager, young players coming aboard, along with some veteran players on the roster, we'll get a chance to reach our lofty goals if we take advantage of the opportunities in front of us. We're excited to welcome some very strong national programs for home matches, while also getting the chance to take on some out of region teams and players at various junctures of the season. It's also the first time we've hosted three events at home in the fall, including the ITA Regionals, so that will be a big plus for our guys."
Here are highlights of the schedule:
• The Tigers will have two annual home tournaments in the fall, Sept. 21-23 for the Ivy Plus and Oct. 5-7 for the Farnsworth.
• The ITA Northeast Regional will come to Princeton Oct. 11-16. It'll be the first time the tournament has been held in Princeton since the fall of 2007.
• Thirteen home matches are scheduled for the spring, beginning Jan. 27 with a Liberty and Army West Point doubleheader.
• Princeton will have 10 ITA top-75 opponents from last year's season-ending ranking, headed by No. 15 Columbia. Six of the eight Ivies, including Princeton, were ranked at the end of last spring, and five non-league opponents are on the schedule, headed by No. 37 Old Dominion on Feb. 1 in Virginia.
• Princeton will again compete at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala., Feb. 22-23. Alabama, Arizona, Auburn, Boise State, Fresno State, Rice and Texas Tech will join Princeton at that event.
• The team will again compete at the USD Challenge Mar. 22-24 in San Diego, joined by host USD, San Diego State, Harvard, Memphis, Tulane, Wichita State and Drake.
