No. 13 Princeton Starts Navy Open With Two Victories

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Dustin Litvak era got off to a great start as the No. 13 Princeton Tigers dropped the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays, 12-5, and Wagner Seahawks, 11-5, at the Navy Open on Saturday.

Highlights:
Matt Payne's tally with four seconds to go tied the score at 2-all after eight minutes.
The Tigers registered the final two goals of the first half, taking a 5-3 lead.
Princeton held Johns Hopkins off the scoreboard in the final frame to take the game, 12-5.

Matt Payne posted the Tigers' two goals in the first quarter as the two foes were locked in a 2-2 tie. Goals from Mitchell Cooper and Payne gave the Tigers a 5-3 advantage at the break. Out of the intermission, the two teams exchanged goals before the Tigers ended the third stanza with two of the last three tallies, taking a three-goal lead (8-5).
In the final quarter, freshman goalie Billy Motherway recorded six saves including one down a player as the Blue Jays were held off the scoreboard. The Tigers had four different scorers in the stanza as the squad gave Litvak a win in his first game as head coach of the program.

Litvak's squad jumped out quickly in the second half with four consecutive goals, holding the Seahawks without a tally for 5:23 of game action. After Wagner's goal, Princeton registered the next four tallies to put the game out of reach.
