John Lovett (And His 6 Touchdowns) Grab Ivy League/Suburban Transit Player of the Week Honors
September 24, 2018 | Football
More than 11,000 people came to Princeton Stadium last weekend interested in seeing just how John Lovett would look as the full-time quarterback this season. It didn't take them long to realize that he could handle the role in impressive fashion.
Lovett completed 21 of 27 passes for 332 yards and five touchdowns — one short of the program record, though it ties the mark in games without overtime — and he added 71 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground during Princeton's 51-9 home-opening win over Monmouth during Community & Staff Day at Princeton. It marked the second straight game this season that Lovett has accounted for at least four touchdowns, which follows his 2016 Bushnell Cup-winning season when he accounted for 31 scores.
Lovett's impressive performance earned him both the CFPA National Offensive Player of the Week honor, as well as the CollegeSportsMadness National Offensive Player of the Week award, over the weekend. He added to his honors Monday by earning both the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week award, as well as the GoPrincetonTigers.com/Suburban Transit Player of the Week award.
This was Lovett's fifth Ivy League Player of the Week honor, which ties him with eight other players (including former Tiger All-America DB Jay McCareins '06) for 10th most in Ivy League history. If he wins this honor again, he would tie both Keith Elias '94 and Quinn Epperly '15 for the Princeton record.
Lovett is the featured guest on this week's episode of the Original Eleven podcast, which will be up later Monday.
