Poling Wins USTA Mixed Doubles Title

Rookie Karl Poling's holiday break was a winning one, as he and sister Lilian Poling teamed up to win the USTA National Mixed Open Indoor doubles title at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York.
The tournament wrapped Dec. 31.
The Polings, who were seeded second in the draw, won four matches after a first-round bye to claim the title. The pair's first three wins came in straight sets before defeating top-seeded Justin Natale, who played at Brown in the early 2000s, and Anna Ulyashchenko, a senior at Wake Forest, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Poling's sister Lilian is a junior at Boise State.
At Princeton, Poling posted an 8-2 singles record in the fall, starting his career with six straight singles wins. The Tigers will begin their spring dual-match season Jan. 27 with a home doubleheader against Liberty and Army West Point, where the Polings' father, Jim, is the head coach.
