Men's Tennis Team Opens Season with Doubleheader Sweep

The Princeton men's tennis team swept its season-opening doubleheader Sunday with a 6-1 win over Liberty and a 7-0 win over Army West Point.
"It was a good opening day for us," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "We were anxious to get started coming off exams, so it was nice to record two home wins to start off the dual-match season. We were able to play a good number of guys and try some different doubles combinations. Liberty and Army both played spirited, quality tennis and it allowed us to be tested in spots. We'll get back to work and get ready for matches on the road next weekend."
Against Liberty, Damian Rodriguez and Karl Poling teamed up to win at first singles and then each took wins at one of the top two doubles spots, while Justin Barki, who teamed with Bill Duo to win at second doubles, had a singles win at fifth and Kabir Sarita and Davey Roberts also contributed singles wins.
Against Army West Point, Princeton again won the doubles point, this time in a sweep, and saw Duo, Payton Holden, Will Peters and Poling all follow their doubles wins with wins in singles to help complete the sweep.
Princeton will compete again on a trip to Virginia next Friday and Saturday against Old Dominion, Norfolk State and William & Mary.
