The Princeton men's and women's swimming and diving teams will compete in their final dual meets of the regular season this coming weekend, though they hold far greater significance than simply a final test before the upcoming Ivy League Championships. After all, H-Y-P weekend is special in the swimming/diving world, and there is no reason to believe this weekend will be any different.
The Princeton women will open the weekend by taking on both Harvard and Yale, starting with Session 1 Friday at 6 pm. The meet will conclude Saturday at noon in Blodgett Pool. Both Harvard and Yale come into the weekend with matching 5-0 records, while Princeton is 4-1, so all three teams can end the weekend with the dual meet title. A swimmer from one of the three programs has the top Ivy time in 12 of the 14 individual events, including reigning Ivy champion Regan Barney's time of 4:16.11 in the 400 IM.
Princeton comes into the weekend with an 8-2 record, including a tight Senior Day win over both Rutgers and Villanova in its last event. Joanna Curry, another reigning Ivy League individual champion, helped the Tigers take that win with the winning touch in the final relay.
Following the weekend, the Princeton women will return home to prepare for the 2019 Ivy League Championships, which come to DeNunzio Pool Feb. 20-23; check next week's edition of Beyond The Stripes for a closer look at the championship weekend and its impact on a trio of Tiger upperclassmen.
The Princeton men will take center stage during the second half of the weekend, which begins Saturday at 6 pm and concludes Super Sunday at noon. Both Princeton and Harvard enter the weekend with perfect records, though the Crimson recently broke into the national Top 25 and will be competing in their home pool.
The Tiger men come into the weekend with a 7-0 record, thanks in large part to a thrilling 152-148 home win over Navy in January. The senior co-captain duo of Cole Buese and Murphy McQuet led the team with five individual victories, and they'll bring significant veteran experience into the weekend. Freshman Raunak Khosla may be going into his first H-Y-P meet, but he has been one of the league's most impressive rookies this season. He has Top-2 Ivy times in three different events (200 fly, 200 IM, 400 IM); no other Ivy freshman can even claim two such marks this season.
The men's Ivy League Championships will take place Feb. 27-March 2 at Brown.
