Connors Scores Twice in 4-1 Win Over Harvard as Streak Continues
January 04, 2019 | Women's Ice Hockey
Freshman Maggie Connors scored twice as Princeton defeated Harvard 4-1 on Friday afternoon as the Tigers push their unbeaten streak to 15 games.
Junior Carly Bullock had two assists and ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Month Sarah Fillier had a goal and an assist. Sophomore Rachel McQuigge earned the win making 18 saves as Princeton outshot Harvard 45-19.
Princeton dominated the possession from the opening puck drop and had maintained a strong offensive zone presence. Two quick Princeton penalties gave Harvard a chance to get in the game and it did so with an Ali Peper power-play goal at 10:39.
Three minutes later, Princeton was skating a player down again but the heads up play by Fillier turned the tables. She intercepted a pass between the two blue liners for a breakaway opportunity and tallied the Tigers' second short-handed goal of the season to even the game at 1-1 at the first intermission.
With shots tilted 14-8 in favor of the Tigers after 20 minutes, it was only a matter of time before the Orange & Black took the lead.
Princeton scored three goals in a span of 3:27 in the middle frame to take the lead with two power-play goals from Connors.
Connors look like she had the go-ahead goal with a puck off the post but was able to get in the score sheet for real at 15:07 with a snipe from the right circle.
Griffin expanded the lead with a tally from the same spot, as she and Stephanie Sucharda teamed up to beat the four Crimson skaters.
Connors put her second goal of the game under the pads of Reed at 18:34 for her eighth goal of the season.
Princeton improves to 9-0-2 in the league and 11-2-4 overall. The Tigers face Dartmouth tomorrow at 3 p.m.
