Princeton Moves Up In National Polls
October 14, 2019 | Football
The Princeton football team moved up in both national FCS polls after improving to 4-0 with its 28-3 win over Lafayette Friday night.
The Tigers, one of three unbeaten teams in the FCS along with North Dakota State and Dartmouth, went to 16th in the AFCA coaches' poll and 17th in the STATS FCS poll when they were announced Monday. Princeton moved up three spots in the coaches' poll and four in the STATS poll after a week in which 11 ranked teams lost.
Princeton was not one of those. The Tigers defense and running game took care of the Leopards as Princeton stretched its winning streak to 14 straight.
Princeton's defense was especially strong:
* Lafayette had 162 yards of total offense
* Princeton held Lafayette to 1.5 yards per rush and seven first downs
* Lafayette had the ball 12 times. Only once did the Leopards cross midfield
* Of those 12 drives, they ended with eight punts, two interceptions, once on downs and the one field goal
Princeton also ran for 202 yards and had an 11-plus minute edge in possession time.
Princeton was represented on the Ivy League honor roll by center Alex Deters, linebacker Jeremiah Tyler and punter Will Powers.
The Tigers now finish the season with six straight Ivy League games, beginning Saturday at 12:30 at Brown.
