Seggerman, Holden Win ITA Regional Doubles Title
October 22, 2019 | Men's Tennis
Payton Holden and Ryan Seggerman, the 15th-ranked pair in the nation by the ITA, won the ITA Northeast Regional doubles title Tuesday at Penn.
In a battle of top-two seeds, second-seeded Seggerman and Holden beat top-seeded and ITA ninth-ranked Charlie Broom and David Horneffer of Dartmouth, 7-6(4), 6-4.
"We're very proud of Ryan and Payton," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "They've played at a high level for a while now but are really starting to click even more. Today was high-quality doubles from both teams. Those were two experienced doubles teams out there today and the shotmaking and level of execution was impressive. We played well at key moments of each set to get us across the finish line. We're excited to qualify for the Oracle Fall Championships and look forward to more opportunities."
It's Princeton's first ITA regional doubles title since Matt Siow '13 and Matt Spindler '13 won in 2011. A year later, Matija Pecotic '13 won the regional singles title.
Holden and Seggerman had to win five matches in the span of four days to claim the title, including a semifinal win over teammates Damian Rodriguez and Karl Poling.
