Freshman Zoe Howard and sophomore Brianna Shvets shared the ITA Northeast Regional singles title Tuesday at Army West Point after winning their semifinal matches.
It's the second consecutive year that a Princeton player won the ITA regional singles title, with current junior Stephanie Schrage winning last year.
Howard beat Yale's Caroline Dunleavy 6-0, 7-6 and Shvets beat Syracuse's Miranda Ramirez, ranked 64th in the nation by the ITA, 6-4, 6-2 in advancing to the final.
The two Tigers' run through the draw each included five wins to reach the final, and each defeated a top-two seed in Monday's quarters to reach the semis, with Shvets beating 52nd-ranked and top-seeded Samantha Martinelli of Yale and Howard defeating 81st-ranked and second-seeded Sofya Golubovskaya of Syracuse. Shvets added a second win over an ITA-ranked opponent with the victory over Ramirez.
The final was not played due to injury for both Tigers.
