No. 6 Princeton Takes Season Opener Over Syracuse, 3-1
October 25, 2019 | Women's Ice Hockey
Scoring three third-period goals, the Princeton women's hockey team beat Syracuse 3-1 Friday night in Baker Rink to open the 2019-20 season on a night that saw the program raise its 2019 NCAA quarterfinal banner.
Syracuse took the lead on a Savannah Rennie rebound goal 11-plus minutes into the first period, and the Orange held on to the 1-0 lead into the third.Â
Princeton tied it up just before the midway point of the third period when Sarah Fillier found Carly Bullock at the top of the faceoff circle to the right of Syracuse netminder Allison Small, and Bullock buried the one-timer to even the score.
Â
Just more than six minutes later, Princeton went ahead when Annie Kuehl fired a pass across the Tigers' offensive zone to Mariah Keopple, and Keopple found the net from just inside the blue line for a 2-1 lead with less than five minutes to play.
Â
Bullock added her second goal of the game on an empty netter inside the final minute for the 3-1 final.
Â
Princeton and Syracuse will have a quick turnaround for a noon game Saturday to wrap up the weekend.
