Jeremiah Tyler Named Ivy League Defensive Player Of The Week

Jeremiah Tyler brought energy, effort, impact and a lot of production to the Princeton football defense Saturday against Harvard. In other words, he brought all the things he always does.

This time, he took away more than a win.

Tyler, who led Princeton with 13 tackles and added a big interception, was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the tough 30-24 win over Harvard.

Tyler had six unassisted tackles, and his first quarter interception and 26-yard return set up a field goal that made it a 10-game early. He also had two tackles for loss, a half of a sack and one pass breakup. He was pretty much everywhere for all 60 minutes, with as much intensity at the final gun as he did when it started.

"That's how he's played all season," said head coach Bob Surace. "He's having an outstanding year, not just with how he plays but also with how he inspires his teammates, his work ethic and his impact in the locker room. He has a positive effect in every area of the program."

Tyler is second on the team with 36 tackles, and his eight tackles for loss lead the team.

Princeton, winner of 16 straight, moved up to 12th in the FCS coaches' poll.

The Tigers play at Cornell Friday night at 6 on ESPNU in a game that will be played five days before the 150th anniversary of Princeton's participation in the first college football game ever, against Rutgers, on Nov. 6, 1869.
