No. 7 Princeton Takes Down Cornell, 3-0, Secures Share of Ivy Title and NCAA Tournament Bid

The No. 7 Princeton Tigers collected its ninth straight victory with a 3-0 decision over the Cornell Big Red at Bedford Field on Sunday afternoon.

Princeton earned the first scoring threat of the game with a corner two minutes in as Clara Roth had consecutive shots that were blocked. The Tigers broke through in the fourth minute.

Sammy Popper dribbled to her left and drilled a shot that got through.
Princeton generated four shots and three corners in the first quarter. The Tigers had a goal waved off before the end of the frame because it was deemed dangerous.

Cornell had its first corner at the 19:33 mark of the second stanza. The Big Red's Caroline Ramsey's blast was denied by MaryKate Neff from getting through. That was the only shot of the first half for the road squad. Princeton held a 7-1 shot advantage at the intermission.

Cornell opened up the second half with two shots including a corner, but Grace Baylis denied both attempts ….
Cornell's only other chance in the third stanza was wide. The Big Red had just one attempt the rest of the way.

Julianna Tornetta registered a tally on a penalty stroke in the fourth quarter. She finished with a goal and an assist in the win.

Princeton finished with a 26-5 shot lead and had 10 more corners than Cornell (13-3). With the victory, head coach Carla Tagliente's group nabs a share of the Ivy League title and clinches the conference's NCAA Tournament bid. The Tigers finish the regular season next Saturday (Nov. 9) at Penn (12 p.m.). Â
