No. 5 Princeton Tops Pros in Thanksgiving Weekend Exhibition
December 01, 2019 | Women's Ice Hockey
With a break in ECAC Hockey League play on Thanksgiving weekend, the Princeton women's hockey team got goals from Sarah Fillier and Maggie Connors to beat a team of members of the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association Sunday night at Baker Rink.
The PWHPA team included eight ECAC Hockey League alumnae, among them Tiger alum Kelsey Koelzer '17, as well as Amanda Kessel, part of the 2018 U.S. team that won gold at the Olympic Games in South Korea.
Princeton's first goal came less than two minutes into the second period when Fillier collected a puck off a Claire Thompson blocked shot, skated toward the slot and fired it between the pads of PWHPA netminder Kimberly Sass.
Â
Connors made it 2-0 less than four minutes later after Stef Wallace picked up a PWHPA pass that didn't connect just inside the Tigers' defensive zone and quickly dished it ahead to Carly Bullock, who sent a cross-ice pass to fellow charging forward Connors to double the lead.
Â
Stephanie Neatby and Rachel McQuigge combined in goal for the Tigers, who had a shutout until less than two minutes remained and PWHPA's Lauren Williams scored a power-play goal.
Princeton will return to ECAC Hockey play Friday at 7 p.m. against current No. 3 Cornell before hosting Colgate Saturday at 3 p.m.
