Jeremiah Tyler Honored At Bushnell Cup Ceremony
December 09, 2019 | Football
NEW YORK - Jeremiah Tyler was honored at the Asa S. Bushnell Cup ceremony Monday afternoon in New York City as one of two finalists of the Ivy League's Defensive Player of the Year Award. The winner was Jack Traynor of Dartmouth.
Â
Princeton has had 12 Bushnell Cup winners, the most of any school, and five other players, including Tyler, be a runner-up since the league began having two finalists on offense and defense in 2010.
Â
Tyler led the Ivy League in tackles for loss and was second on the Princeton team in total tackles with 62 (34 solo). He was one of four unanimous first-team All-Ivy League selections (Traynor was also a unanimous pick) and a nominee for the Buchanan Award as the top defensive player in the FCS.
Â
A sociology major from Detroit, Tyler was a second-team All-Ivy pick a year ago, during Princeton's 10-0 season. He helped lead the Tigers to an 8-2 record in 2019 and was one of two recipients (along with quarterback Kevin Davidson) of the Poe-Kazmaier Trophy, the highest Princeton football annual honor.
