EYE ON THE TIGERS
The Tigers have their work cut out for them to grab as many points as possible in the final six games of the regular season. Currently Princeton is 11th in the ECAC standings - four points back from eighth, which would give the team home ice in the first round of the playoffs. Four seniors lead the offense with All-America Ryan Kuffner leading the pack with 17 goals and 15 assists for 32 points. Fellow All-America Max Véronneau has seven goals and 21 assists for 28 points and Alex Riche has seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points. Defenseman Josh Teves has 17 points with three goals and 14 helpers and played both at forward and at defense in the last game, a win over Yale. Sophomore Ryan Ferland owns a .905 save percentage and a 3.12 goals against average as the starting netminder. Senior Austin Shaw got the start in the last game and is 2-0-1 on the season with a .926 save percentage and a 2.07 GAA.
SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
Rensselaer is a single point ahead of Princeton in the ECAC standings, 12-11. The Engineers are 8-17-3 overall and 5-9-2 in league play. The squad has 17 different goal scorers, with junior Patrick Polino having a team-best seven goals. Junior Jacob Hayhurst is at the top of the scoring column with 23 points on 20 assists and three goals. Freshman Ottoville Leppanen has three goals and 13 assists and junior defenseman Will Reilly (PIT) has five goals and 10 assists. The Engineers have been starting Owen Savory in goal. The rookies has a .933 save percentage and a 2.30 GAA. The power play is 53rd nationally at 14.5 percent, and the penalty kill is 34th at 80.2 percent.
THE PRINCETON/RPI SERIES
Princeton has won the last four meetings with RPI including a 4-1 decision at Hobey Baker Rink in November. Rensselaer's last win was a 2-1 game in Feb. 2016 in Troy. The Engineers lead the all-time series 67-37-11 since it began in 1952. Both Jackson Cressey and Kuffner average more than 2 points per game in the series with Cressey having nine points in four games and Kuffner totalling 14 points in six games. Ferland is unbeaten against RPI with a .948 save percentage and a 1.41 GAA.
SCOUTING THE DUTCHMEN
Union enters the weekend in eighth place in the ECAC standings with a 7-8-1 mark and is 14-9-5 overall. Three seniors have 20+ points led by Cole Maier and his 23. He has six goals and a team-high 17 assists. Ryan Walker has 10 goals and 10 assists and Brett Supinkski adds eight goals and 12 assists. Darion Hanson has started the last five games in goal and 18 total games and owns a .922 save percentage and a 2.37 GAA. Senior Jake Kupsky (SJS) has made 10 starts and owns a .888 save percentage and a 2.70 GAA. Union's power play is 26th nationally at 18.8 percent, while the penalty kill is 56th at 74.4 percent.
THE PRINCETON/UNION SERIES
This will be Princeton's first time back to Messa Rink since the Tigers upset the No. 3 seed in the ECAC Quarterfinals last year in two games. Counting those two games and a 4-3 overtime win in November at Hobey Baker Rink, the Tigers have won the last three games after going winless in 20 games prior. Kuffner and Véronneau average more than a point per game in the series, while Cressey and Teves average 1.00 ppg. Ferland is 3-2 with a .918 save percentage and a 2.95 GAA in the series.
