Teves Matches Program Assist Record as Princeton Surrenders Lead at RPI

Senior Josh Teves has matched the Princeton record of assists by a defenseman with his 67th assist this evening at Houston Field House in a 6-2 loss to Rensselaer. Cliff Abrecht had held the record solo since 1986.

The Tigers surrendered a two-goal lead as the Engineers knotted the game at 2-2 in the second period, before adding four goals in the third.

Senior netminder Austin Shaw made a career high 36 saves in his second consecutive start.

Junior Liam Grande got the offense started with his second goal of the season, after netting his first in the Tigers' last game against Yale. Sophomore Jake Paganelli was patient along the wall finding a seam to Grande as he skated in all alone to make it 1-0 Princeton at 8:51

Senior Alex Riche tallied his eighth goal of the season as Princeton converted on its first power-play opportunity at 2:53 of the second period. Riche was able to tip in a drive from senior Ryan Kuffner and Teves earning the secondary assist - his 67th career assist.

Jake Marrello put the Engineers on the board at 11:24 of the second when he got a loose puck after Shaw made a diving stop on a Donovan Ott shot and put it back door. Taking advantage of the momentum from a just expire power play Brady Wiffen had got a second-chance effort to go at 16:02 to tie the game at 2-2.

RPI added four goals as it outshot Princeton 13-6 in the third period to snap a four-game losing skid in the series.

Princeton (7-15-2, 5-11-1) looks to rebound tomorrow night at Messa Rink, taking on No. 20 Union at 7 p.m.
